What is your favorite part of serving on the school board?

My favorite thing about being on the board is working with all the truly wonderful school system employees. Their dedication to their work is truly inspiring. I also really enjoy collaborating with the other board members. Getting to see their passion for our students made me appreciate our school system even more!

Do you have a favorite quote or personal motto?

My personal life motto is the Golden Rule: Treat others as I would like to be treated. It has served me well as I navigate this job and life in general.

What’s a fun fact about you?

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my two grandchildren, Balen and Bria. They are the lights of my life! My wife Michele and I enjoy dining out, spending time at home, and our church activities. I occasionally enjoy playing a round of golf or kayaking with my children, Sarah, and Logan. Spending quality time with friends and family brings me the most joy in life.

What inspired you to join the school board?

I have been a part of the Livingston Parish School System for over 34 years. I began my career as a teacher/coach in the Albany School System. After receiving a master’s degree in administration/Supervision from the University of Southern Mississippi, I began my administrative career at Holden High School as an Assistant Principal. Several years later I was assigned as the Principal of Westside Junior High School in Walker where I finished my career in the system. After retirement, I knew that I had the knowledge and drive to continue to help our system grow and prosper. In 2021, I ran for District 9 school board representative and was chosen for a four-year term. After one year of service, I was chosen unanimously by the board to serve as Board President. I am both grateful and humbled to be able to serve the people of Livingston Parish in this capacity.

What do you hope to accomplish during your term?

My main priority over the past two years has been to plan and coordinate infrastructure needs in the Albany School system. Some of the projects either started or completed have been: a state of the art cafeteria/classroom addition for Albany Lower/Upper, new lights for the baseball and softball fields, a brand new culinary arts renovation, a planned Industrial arts/welding renovation, a planned new basketball gym for the Middle School, renovation of the old cafeteria into four new classrooms, a new roof for the Upper Elementary School, and a new field for High School softball team. I am incredibly grateful to the people of Albany for their passage of a District 9 half-cent sales tax several years ago that now allows me to complete these projects for their children.
